GSK provides grants and donations as part of our commitment to being a responsible business, to make a positive social impact and to respond to challenges and opportunities in the healthcare system and our broader society.
We provide support to organisations that share our special purpose of getting ahead of disease together; those that seek to foster a deeper understanding of scientific, clinical, healthcare, and community issues; and those that are particularly interested in advancing the prevention, treatment, and management of diseases or actively contribute to improving patient care and enhancing the overall quality of life.
Eligible organisations
Non-profit professional organisation for:
- Healthcare professionals (HCPs) that represent their interests by providing information and services, support for increased medical research, and/or access to healthcare.
- Scientists and / or organisations promoting a scientific or academic discipline.
Non-profit organisation that supports the mission and objectives of a group of local/national business and civic organisations joined together to collectively advance the mission of social welfare.
Non-profit organisation that meets our programmatic focus areas for community needs and charitable efforts.
Organisation, such as a Medical Education Company, providing medical or scientific education, with accreditation / proof of quality and independence.
Non-profit organisation that works to improve healthcare quality through the administration of evidence-based standards, measures, programs, and accreditation.
Including: Hospital / University / Academic medical centre (AMC) / Foundation
Non-profit institution providing medical / surgical treatment and nursing care for patients.
An academic medical centre (AMC) is an accredited medical school or academic hospital in which a majority of the healthcare professionals are faculty members and focused on patient care.
Independent, nonprofit organisation that provides financial assistance to patients living with life-threatening, chronic, and rare diseases for their out-of-pocket prescription medication costs. These foundations sometimes provide other patient services and initiatives, such as other types of financial assistance, referrals to other patient support organisations, and patient advocacy and education.
Non-profit organisation that represents the interest of patients by providing information and services, support for increased medical research, and/or support for increased access to quality care.
Non-profit non-governmental organisation that aims to improve the public policy and/or legislative environment as a key activity (e.g., single interest groups, think tanks, business lobbying groups, trade associations).
This type of organisation is only eligible in the US in the GSK Grants portal.
Non-profit organisation that represents the interest or objectives of a group of local/national business and civic organisations joined together to collectively advance the mission of social welfare.
Educational institution or a constituent part of one, providing higher (or tertiary) education and research and awarding academic degrees in several academic disciplines.
Non-profit organisation not described by one of the above types of organisations.
Grant and donation types
The following types of grants and donations can be submitted in GSK’s online grants and donations portal.
GSK provides financial support for independent medical education (IME) for healthcare professionals, including certified continuing medical education (CME, CE). GSK does not influence timing, content, speaker faculty or audience selection, or participate in its delivery.
For US IME programs, requesting organisations must be accredited by a national accrediting body to provide medical education for healthcare professionals. For US IME review criteria, disease areas of interest, and submission dates, refer to the US IME call for grant applications at: www.gskimefunding.com.
For Ex-US IME programs, for-profit requesting organisations must demonstrate appropriate quality and independence, such as external accreditation or equivalent.
Although IME programs are not legally considered as grants in France, they are managed via the grants and donations portal for operational reasons.

GSK IMPACT awards
The GSK IMPACT Awards support and reward small- to mid-sized nonprofit organisations in US and UK, that are improving community health through the social determinants of health.
Global health
Global Health grants provide financial support to help achieve the aim of changing the trajectory of high burden diseases in lower income countries, with a focus on prevention and treatment of infectious diseases.
Product, vaccine and material donations must be submitted under "Other grants and donations" (please see the below section).
Humanitarian relief
Monetary support based on humanitarian needs, including emergency response and disasters situations.
Other
Grant or donation to an organisation that relies on community contributions where the purpose is to benefit the public or the community through activities and community support devoted to the assistance of those in need.
GSK provides support for an organisation’s priorities and initiatives in an area of focus that includes:
Academic support
Financial support for education, training, and teaching, where GSK funds not the individual but the organisation or the program that awards the support. GSK does not select the recipients of the financial support.
Scientific congress / meeting
Financial support for scientific congresses (conferences) are planned, organised and implemented by the requesting organisation or by third parties under the auspices of legitimate societies.
Travel grant: funding program supporting travel, accommodation and / or registration fees ONLY, aimed at enabling healthcare professionals / other healthcare staff or scientists to attend medical or scientific congress / conference. A selection process must be in place, based on merit and / or need (participants from Low-Middle Income Countries).
Scientific program / project
Financial support to an organisation to implement their program or project over a period of time (usually the calendar year).

Corporate membership
Financial support for corporate membership and engagement with the organisation that fosters the organisation's area of focus. Varying support levels/tiers of associated benefits are often offered depending on the membership level, according to the organisation by-laws, charters or guidelines.
Funding amounts or fees match the organisation’s established levels of support and membership is open and available to other entities besides GSK.
Donation of material / equipment
Provision of new or salvaged equipment/material (including, but not limited to, IT, manufacturing, scientific, and analytical laboratory equipment or materials).
This donation category includes "in-kind support", i.e. non-monetary support provided to an organisation, for the use of GSK facilities, time of GSK employees, etc.

Humanitarian (product) donations
Donations of GSK products or vaccines not related to any commercial offer or to a GSK sponsored or supported research project, or compassionate use / patient access program.
Products and vaccines donation requests are aligned to WHO Guidelines for Medicine Donations and WHO-UNICEF Joint Statement for vaccine donations, including in humanitarian and emergency situations.

Independent patient assistance
Funds provided to Independent Patient Assistance Foundations are used to provide grants directly to insured patients who meet certain qualifications established by the foundation. These grants help patients pay for the prescriptions and/or treatments prescribed by their healthcare provider. This assistance helps patients afford the out-of-pocket costs (copay and coinsurance) for these items that their insurance company requires. These organisations are totally independent from GSK.
Patient education / advocacy
Financial support for initiatives for the interest of patients, providing information and services, support for increased medical research, and/or support for increased access to quality care.
Public policy / Legislative support
Financial support in the US only in the GSK Grants portal, for public policy and/or legislative initiatives that fosters the organisation's area of focus.
Other
Financial or non-monetary support for a non-profit organisation’s priorities and initiatives in a category not listed.
Notes
GSK receives an acknowledgement of support but no substantial benefits.
Investigator Sponsored Studies (ISS) are out of scope of grants and donations and must be submitted to The Supported Studies Programme.
Sponsorship with substantial return (ex: medical or commercial booth) are not authorised under grants and donations. The benefit will be declined, or the request will be redirected to another GSK team.
Clinical research support is not authorised under grants and donations.
GSK reports on a wide range of data in our Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Performance Report and provides additional ratings and disclosures.
GSK does not allow transfer of value to Government Officials (GOs) and External Experts with impact on GSK Business (EEiB).
Government Official (GO) External Expert with influence on GSK Business (EEiB) are defined as follows:

Definition of Government Official (Anti-Bribery & Corruption Policy): ‘Government’ refers to all levels and subdivisions of governments, i.e. local, regional, national, administrative, legislative, executive, or judicial, and royal or ruling families. Government officials are defined broadly as:
- Any officer or employee of a government or any department, agency, or instrumentality of a government (which includes public enterprises, and entities owned or controlled by the state);
- Any officer or employee of a public international organisation (for example, the World Bank or United Nations);
- Any officer or employee of a political party, or any candidate for public office;
- Any person defined as a government or public official under applicable local laws (including anti-bribery and corruption laws) and not already covered by any of the above; and/or
- Any person acting in an official capacity for or on behalf of any of the above. We extend the definition of government official to any person with close family members who are government officials with the capacity, actual or perceived, to influence or take official decisions affecting GSK business.

- Able to influence government including those employed by governments or government-run hospitals;
- Members of advisory boards that make recommendations related to the approval, reimbursement, or use of our products and other business operations;
- Any officer or employee of a political party, or any candidate for public office;
- Members of formulary committees;
- Individuals who influence clinical practice guidelines at a local, state, national or international level including but not limited to members of guideline committees.
- Individuals who make purchasing decisions.;
- Individuals who have responsibility for allocating or influencing funds;
- Close family members of those listed above.
