World AIDS Day 2007

Every year on 1 December, World AIDS Day encourages everyone to stop and think about people affected by HIV and AIDS.

GSK’s commitment to HIV and AIDS
The following video, The Journey, charts 25 years of HIV/AIDS and GSK’s commitment to fighting it.

  • We are helping to make treatment a reality
  • We have been on the forefront of HIV research for 25 years and developed the first anti-retroviral medication to treat HIV infection
  • Our Positive Action programme has been supporting communities affected by HIV & AIDS for 15 years
  • We have the largest portfolio of HIV medicines
  • We have supplied millions of anti-retroviral tablets at no profit to those who need help most
  • We are developing easy-to-dose anti-retrovirals for children in hardest hit communities
  • We are pioneering the development of a vaccine through multiple projects both in-house and with external partners
  • Our efforts will help to defeat AIDS

Every year, on World AIDS Day, people are urged to wear a red ribbon as a sign of solidarity with the millions of people affected by HIV and AIDS throughout the world.

Most importantly it is a signal aimed at removing prejudice, raising awareness of HIV/AIDS and reminding us that this terrible disease has not gone away.

World AIDS Day

This year, is the 20th annual observance of World AIDS Day. It is also a time meant for individuals around the globe to reflect on a disease that claims the lives of 8,000 people every day and continues to threaten millions more.

It is also a time for each of us to renew our commitment to doing what we can to help stop the spread of this terrible disease.

The theme of this year’s World AIDS Day is leadership – especially that of political leaders who will be asked to “Stop AIDS. Keep the Promise” and drive the commitment to treating all people living with HIV and AIDS by 2010.

World AIDS Day 2007 - this year's themes

  • Worldwide theme - leadership
  • Worldwide theme - Stop AIDS. Keep the promise
  • Theme in the UK - HIV: let's get talking
