What makes you, you?

I used to be national rally driving champion. It was exciting and competitive, and I’ve brought the will to win from driving to my work.

What’s the best thing about working here?

The morals behind our business. We want to be competitive but not at any price. Is what we’re planning right for patients? That’s the first question we always ask.

What are your highlights?

Since joining, I’ve done many roles from marketing director to VP global commercial for respiratory, head of the respiratory centre of excellence, Paris, and general manager of Ireland. The longest I have been in one role is 2¾ years. I now head service development in the core business services (CBS) function. My role impacts everyone in all parts of the business worldwide. There’s incredible scope for improving things and I thrive on being set different and interesting projects.

How have we supported your development?

I’ve been fortunate to have had inspirational managers and I’ve learned a lot from each of them. Every role has brought its own challenges. As general manager of Ireland, for example, I was in charge of a £150m business. I dealt with everything from clinical trials to governments to industry bodies, which was incredibly exciting.

What would you say to someone thinking of joining us?

Be prepared to challenge yourself and accept roles that are out of your traditional skill set. There are many opportunities – you just need to grab them.
