Ware
Our site is located in Hertfordshire, to the north of Greater London. We are one of the oldest in GSK’s network of sites having been established in 1897.
Today, we are responsible for the development and introduction of many of the company’s new products, in either tablet or respiratory form.
Around 1600 people work on site either supporting the development of new products or the supply of many of GSK’s most important established products.
Our manufacturing site is co-located with R&D, and has recently enjoyed significant investment in new manufacturing facilities across both respiratory and tablets.
It is estimated that up to seven million people a day take a medicine developed or supplied from Ware, underpinning our site vision “to improve millions of people’s lives every day by the rapid development and supply of our medicines.”

Location
Between 1400 and 1700, Ware prospered as a coaching town and then a malt production centre. The town's fascinating past is illustrated at the Ware Museum at The Priory Lodge. In 1553, Lady Jane Grey was declared Queen in Ware.
Ware has many historic buildings including The Priory founded in 1338, St Mary's Church rebuilt in 1380, old coaching inns and 18th century riverside gazebos. Another intriguing attraction is Scott's Grotto; a gothic garden building constructed in the 1760s by the poet John Scott. It also has a variety of small shops and a street market every Tuesday.
Key processes
Products from Ware will either be in tablet or inhaled product form. In tablets, the main manufacturing disciplines are dispensing, granulation, compression and coating. In respiratory, it is micronising, blending, filling, assembly and packing.
Key products
Seretide is one of the most important established products within the GSK portfolio and has been launched and supplied from Ware for more than 10 years.
